R M X N
“Do RMXN”…A rhetoric, command from my swimming trainer would give me an adrenaline rush to complete my lap. One lap on another till I ran out of breath. This abbreviated command for me was a mystery, until, one day I notice his body language while he was explaining swimming actions to a kid. I was aghast, the command was deciphered- ARM And ACTION!
“Baby come to Mumma”, “Finish your food fast”, “Don’t do this and that” and a few more commands in English programs a day for a toddler. Today, parents coming from different backgrounds, culture and ethnicity are goading their kids into the elite English club. Parents belonging to a rarified group with inability to speak good English rather have no qualms about doing so.
Probably, they know the lost opportunity in their life and doesn’t want their kids to be gutted anymore.
Picking up English is a function of induction. One can manufacture this. And it’s darn simplest. The process has to begin with a self persuasion. English can come to you elite way or the commoner way, but rest with your own acknowledgement.
We often choose darn difficult words with a combination of wrong grammar just to impress the listener and to get pat on our shoulder for doing it elite way. But instead we bring embarrassment to a self expression. Ergo…We learn to make mistakes.
There needs to be a constant acceptance of this rarefied group. They have eventually made the unthinkable thing of three decades ago a doable deed. Scoring from a security guard, maids, waiters, petrol pump attendant etc. all speak and understand English. With limited vocabulary and a few English sentences, makes them the starters of the commoner way. The source of English, in some cases could be direct training by the employers or could be the motivation through social influence of movies and digital tools. Jokes, one liners and forwarded messages all make a repository for these naive learners.

The core is “expression” and that’s easy to get. We need to leave behind if so ever a condescending behavior to prove superior for not so inferior group. And the rest would follow.
